We talk about Silver Standard Studios first ever project, Whimsical Wizardry, and how development is going so far.

We started Developing Whimsical Wizardry in September. Our team has been hard at work to make the best game possible in a eight month time period. We’re a new team and Whimsical Wizardry is our first game we are releasing. Now after four months of development I’m proud to write the first Whimsical Wizardry devlog post. Today I want to cover what we’ve done so far, and what our plans for the future are. We’ll go over our progress in our levels, game modes and item spells. So where is development now, and where will it continue to grow?

Levels

In our game wizards fight in fun and exciting locals, to see who the best worst wizard is. Our artist have been hard at work creating props, textures and grey-blocked levels for whimsical wizardry. Whimsical Wizardry currently features four playable maps two of which have textures, the levels include:

  • Lobby (Textured)
  • Library (Textured)
  • Castle (Grey-blocked)
  • Tavern (Grey-blocked)

We’ve already made lots of great locations for wizard duels, but we’re not done yet. By the mid-April we hope to have 10 textured levels ready for use in Whimsical Wizardry.

Game Modes

We designed several games for our players to try in our game. At the time of this post we’ve made two playable game modes:

  • Last Wizard Standing and Ponder the Orb. In last wizard standing wizards cast spells to knock other wizard off the stage.
  • Ponder the Orb plays like a game of keep away, wizards must grab and hold on to the orb in order to secure victory.

We hope that each game of Whimsical Wizardry will be different and fun, to accomplish this we are adding more variety to how you can play. Two new game modes are in development for our future releases.

Item Spells

What’s an item spell? An item spell is spell that wizards picks up and casts. This is the main mechanic of our game. That’s why we are putting a focus on the fun factor and variety of spells. Currently Whimsical Wizardry feature seven Unique spells to cast at your friends in wizarding duels, spells include:

  • Fireball
  • Magic Missile Plus
  • Mage Hand
  • Blink
  • Web Shoot
  • Ice Beam
  • Rock Slide

In the coming months of development our team hope to have twenty item spells completed by mid April. To achieve this we’re going to work extra hard to create a new spell nearly every patch or nearly every patch.

What’s Next?

We’ve been working Whimsical Wizardry for four months now, and we’ve taken the feedback from our past playtest to heart. At Silver Standard Studios we hold our selves to a high standard of satisfying our player base. A Standard Set is a Standard met.
